Wikipedia’s entry records that Mona was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1962, moved to the United States at four and grew up in East Lansing, Michigan, where her parents taught at Michigan State University. She earned her BFA in drawing and painting there in 1985 and completed a certificate in museum exhibition planning at Georgetown University in 1999.

It describes her practice in acrylic, watercolour and mixed media, exploring injustice, sexism and racism, and the contrasts between Western and Arab representations of women, and notes her 2004 mixed media work depicting the activist Rachel Corrie.
